Halpin, age 70, of East China loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son-in-law, and friend, passed away on Nov. 17, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born in Marine City on December 24, 1935 to the late Harry J. Halpin and Jewel (Christian) Hahn. John married Grace Anne Gastineau, February 7, 1959 at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

John was a past President of the Holy Cross Booster Club, past President of the Holy Cross Usher Club, Past Deputy Grand Knight of Council 856 Knights of Columbus in Marine City.

John is an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus 856. John is a former member of the Southeastern Michigan Conservation Club. John volunteered many hours to various community causes throughout his life. He also was a current member of Holy Cross Alumni Association Continuing his legacy of giving, in death, John donated his corneas to Gift of Life. "Big John" had a love and passion for the St.

Clair River, freighters, boating, traveling, family camping trips, snowmobiling, hunting and plain old togetherness with family and friends. John's smile, laugh and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who were "LUCKY THEY GOT TO SEE John is preceded in death by his parents, Harry J. Halpin and Jewel and Edward Hahn, along with infant children Bernadette and Mary.
