000-0000 I got the response I needed! -Ron Kadzlelewski Richmond Americans believe smoking's addictive The Associated Press NEW YORK The overwhelming majority of Americans believe smoking is addictive, and most of them believe tobacco company executives share that belief, according to a Harris Poll. The poll, being released today, found that 90 of the public believes smoking causes cancers. Seventy-nine percent of smokers also believe that, it said. The nationwide poll of 1,006 adults was conducted by Louis Harris and Associates Inc. from March 26 to April 1.

It found: 95 of the public, including 92 of smokers, believe smoking is addictive. 92, including 88 of smokers, believe the tobacco company executives also think their product is addictive. But 40 agreed that tobacco is a legal product and the companies should be allowed to sell and advertise products. The results have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
