SATURDAY, SEPT. 6, 2008 TIMES HERALD Step back in time Historic home tour welcomes visitors 1 -i Hi i I'Ti By BOB GROSS Times Herald They all own older homes and the love they feel for those glories of a former age is apparent. "Sometimes these homes belong more to the community than to the owners," Amy Pellegrini said. "We're just the caretakers. "We're proud of them and want to show them off." Pellegrini and her husband, Rodger Carter, own a Victorian home at 147 Brown St.

in St. Clair. They and the owners of eight other homes and busineses in St. Clair will open their doors for a tour on Sept. 13 to benefit the St.

Clair Society for Historic Preservation. The tour continues Sept. 14 with admission to two museums and the Red Brick Schoolhouse on Meisner Road in East China Township. Pellegrini's Brown Street home was once the residence for the head trainer at the Dromore Farms horse and dog racing stable that flourished in the early 1900s north of St. Clair.

Carter and Pellegrini believe the home was moved to its present location in the 1920s. It's one of two residences referred to locally as the "Dog House." "There's only two houses left from the original estate: This one and the one across the street at 146 Brown Carter said.
