29 INS Three former high ranking police officers who were not named in the latest indictments issued by the one man grand jury were ordered to appear today before Circuit Judge Homer T. Ferguson as an aftermath of testimony linking them to Detroit's handbook racket. They are former Chief Inspector Gustave C. Schink, former inspector Thomas Collop and former Lieut. Henry Stevenson.

All are retired. The witness who accused Schink and Collop of taking graft was Sam Shevin, asserted handbook operator. The new teachers are Miss Ruth Huber, Saginaw, who will teach Latin, and Hamilton Morningstar, Ann Arbor, who will teach the shop course, which will be started this year. A third teacher remains to be hired to fill the vacancy, caused by the resignation of Joseph Huston, science and mathematics teacher, to accept a position in Jackson, schools. Other teachers are: High school principal, Luther Lamb; coach and social science, Clyde Dawe; agriculture, Herbert DeKleine; music, Floyd Heydenburg and Miss Norah Dowde; social science, Russell Eggleston; French and English, Miss Margaret Sauer; commercial. Miss Loretta Anderson; English and speech, Miss Laurena Beadle; home economics. Miss Bernice Cooper.

Handler Croswell, Aug. 29 Charles B. Kandler, 60, resident of this city 30 years, died in his home Wednesday. Funeral services will be held in St.

Patrick's Catholic church at 9 a.m. Friday. Rev. Charles W. Burkhardt, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. Surviving are his widow; four sons, Anthony, Peter, Joseph and Carl Kandler, all of Croswell; four daughters, Mrs. John Geiser, Mrs. John Gravish, Mrs. Joseph Kisandi and Mrs.

William Kady, all of Detroit; a brother, John Kandler, Ellington, and 10 grandchildren. Mr. Kandler was born in Austria July 5, 1880. high school classes will be in session a full hour this year instead of 45 minutes, Superintendent Stanley L. Benjamin said today.

The new plan is expected to make possible more intensive teaching, as well as provide additional time for co-operative study. Classes will resume Sept 3. First year algebra and Latin, formerly taught in the ninth grade, will not be taught before the tenth grade, Mr. Benjamin said. During the summer, a new stoker was installed in the high school building, and new power machines were placed in the manual training shop.

On the high school faculty besides Mr. Benjamin are Arthur Doolittle, principal of the senior high school; Harry Avery, athletics and science; Don G. Rieman, agriculture; Percy Gardner, manual training; Miss Maxine Dodds, home economics: Mrs. Roberta Rhinehart, Miss Mary Buskhard, English; Miss Hazel Bloss, foreign language; Miss Frances Kime, vocal music; John K. Mitchell, band and orchestra; and Reuban Nichols and Miss Olive Lookwood, junior high school.

The grade school faculty includes F. A. Gorton, principal; Miss Eugenia Keeler, fifth grade; Mrs. Zelma Brown, fourth grade; Miss Sadie Mitchell, third grade; Mrs. Cecile Hurley, second grade; and Mrs.

29 Thomas McKierman, 73, died this morning in his home on the Big Hand road, Richmond township, after three weeks' illness. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Augustine's Catholic church here. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Wam-bach, Detroit, and Mrs. Eveline Hennigan, Richmond township; three sons, Thomas, Roy and William McKierman, all of Detroit; and eight grandchildren. He was born in Columbus township, Jan. 1, 1867, and had lived in this vicinity most of his life.

Mrs. Hyzer is survived by her husband; an infant son, Lawrence Earl, born Aug. her mother, Mrs. Orville Ellis; a brother, Roy Lawrence, and her grandmother, Mrs. Carrie Grantt, all of Bay Port.

Mrs. Hyzer was born in Caseville July 28, 1910. 29 Rural pupils will be transported to Deckerville High school during the 1940-41 school year in three busses, Superintendent T. B. Poole said today. The school opens Sept. 3.

An enrollment of about 175 in the high school and 110 in the grades is expected. Pupils riding in the school busses may either pay $15 each semester or $1 a week for the first 30 weeks, Mr. Poole said. Deckerville High school offers four courses of study agriculture, commercial, home economics and college preparatory. General mathematics will be substituted for first-year algebra in the ninth grade, Mr.

Poole said. Under the new arrangement algebra will be taught in the tenth grade. Mr. Poole is returning for his nineteenth year on the Deckerville faculty and his tenth year as superintendent. He is in charge of Smith-Hughes agriculture classes.
