The music of the evening waa a delightful surprise to the club when the hostess invited all to gather aboat the piano and join in singing a birthday song written especially for the occasion bv one of the members, testifying to an enduring pride in the association. The guests were then conducted to the dining room where a buffet lunt heon was served, and the birthday idea carried out by a birthday cake centering the dining table surrounded by eleven lighted carnation colored candles crystal candle resting on lace the whole effect being reflected in the polished mahogany table.

Mr. Black was formerly a resident also mall carrier of this and had recently moved to Detroit. He waa passing tb rough Marlette oo hss way to Saginaw and stepped from the car dur-the time people were ein off and on. the train then backed on th? switch to allow a freight to piss through after which It pulled out r.o' stopping again at the station. Mr.

black ran to catch on and the con-cictor told him not to. however he tried to catch the steps of the last coach but missed it and was thrown against the tracks and dragged about 25 feet. He was terribly cut about the face and back of his head, his back and both legs badly bruised and cut- He was unconscious for some time but it was found that no bones were broken and he was taken to the home of W. N. Rogers where he is slowly recovering.

About 75 or SO of Mr. and Mrs. Cam-good's friends and neighbors gave them a pleasant surprise at home Monday evening. They expect to move to Mariette in a sh rt time, having recently soid his farm. A very enjoyable evening was spent; refreshments were served and Rev.

W. J. Cain in behalf of the company presented Mr. and Mrs. Cawood with a beautiful library table.

Geo. For and Karl Robinson both Marlette boys have opened up a grocery store on west Marlette streft and will start business tomorrow. They have had considerable experience in the mercantile business their many friends Join in wishing them success. R. A.

Butler of Detroit will move on his farm south of town this fall. Mr. Butler was formerly a grocerman of this place. Mrs. R.

Richard l.nmly passed life Wednesday morning at tiv clock after an illness of about years, being very helpless and patient sufferer for several years Mrs. Lundy whose maiden name Bridget Cunningham was born Vermont, her parents died when this a past was in she was a little child. She was married twice, her first husband being John Donaldson, from which union the following children survive: Jennie. Mrs Ketchum. of Stand ward.

Kmma, Mrs. Met-calf. of Yakima. Charles, of 'leveland- She was married to Richard Lundv. 41 years ago.

The following children are left from their union to mourn their mother's death: Richard. James and Joseph, of Mary Ann. Dennis Morgan with whom she lived, of Mr. Lundv's children whom she cared for so well in their infancy and took a mother's place now living are William. Thomas J'hn of Washington and Jennie.

Mrs. Bruce of Bay City. Had she lived until Fet. 2. she would have been 72 years oW.
