AGGIE It (Associated Press Staff Writer) New York, Jan. 14 Although the more eager expectations were disappointed by the weekly steel trade reviews today, the stock market was inclined to be patiently hopeful and its downward drift was reversed. The mere trickle of selling which appeared during the slow decline of the rast days discouraged the bears and prices picked up a little after a further ease during the first hour.

Gains were narrow, however, and trading phlegmatic. With the large volume of new financing which has appeared this week, banking interests appeared content to let the share and listed bond markets rest quietly. Rails again led the way toward improvement. Shares advancing a point or two included Atchison. Baltimore Ohio, Chesapeake Ohio.

Chicago wheat afterward showed general gains. Corn opened 3-S to 7-8 cent lower and tallied. Helping to lift wheat in the face of Liverpool price setbacks were otlicial reports that the Argentine government would use gold reserves immediately to support exchange r.ites.

Breaks in the Liverpool wheat arket were ascribed to weakness of Argentine exchange and to predictions of consequent increased pressure of Argentine wheat abroad. Kepoits from India told of continued drought. Nebraska was the only corn belt state where an increase of cattle on feed was reported. Five corn states east of the Mississippi showed a decrease of 1 5 per cent.
